Alice Software and Manual

TERC has ended its formal support of Alice, but you can still download a version from the website. Since we stopped using Alice in 1998, we are not even sure that it will operate with recent operating systems, but you are welcome to try it out. Even at its best, Alice was only a prototype and could be a bit temperamental at times. All the same, it may still be very useful to you and you are welcome to use it. We regret that TERC no longer provides technical support.
The National Geographic Society has updated Alice under the name NGS Works. You might check their website for information about buying the product. The Alice Software currently comes in two varieties: Alice Data Tools Software, and Alice Network Software. These two versions are very similar; however the Alice Data Tools Software has all telecommunications functions disabled and is generally used only in conjunction with Web browsers as a helper application for data analysis. On-line instructions are available to help you set up a Netscape Navigator browser to automatically launch the Alice Data Tools Software when you retrieve data from a Community Web project. A compressed version of the Alice Software manual will be included with the downloaded software.
