Four Community Web Projects
EnergyNet students conduct complete energy audits of their school building's energy use -- from heating and lighting systems to power use and building envelope. Using their findings they make recommendations to local school authorities about the cost and management of the energy in their school.
Global Lab brings together a diverse group of students, teachers, and scientists from around the world to work together on global environmental issues, such as atmospheric ozone levels, radon concentrations, and weather patterns.
Classroom FeederWatch Project
is being developed by TERC and The Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology for
grades 5-8. But it also appropriate for lower grades. Classroom Feederwatchers
count the kinds and numbers of bird species that visit feeders placed in
their schoolyard. Using Web-based submittal and retrieval forms, they share
their bird data with the Cornell Lab and with other students doing the project.
Their analyses help scientists and Classroom Feederwatchers answer questions
about changes in population of bird species from month to month, year to
year, and place to place.
CyberMarch was developed by Vistanomics to mobilize students across the nation and around the world in massive monitoring of ground level ozone. Students will present their results to politicians and policy-makers in the service of environmental regulation and clean-air policy.
More information about other telecollaboration projects, including projects you can join now, can be found in our list of on-line educational resources in the Research area.
