About Classroom FeederWatch
FeederWatch Field Test 1996-97
Classroom Feederwatch is being developed by TERC and The Cornell Lab
of Ornithology (The Lab) for grades 5-8. But it is also appropriate for lower
grades. Classroom Feederwatchers count the kinds and numbers of bird species
that visit feeders placed in their schoolyard. Using Web-based submittal
and retrieval forms, they share their bird data with The Lab and with other
students doing the project. Their analyses help scientists and Classroom
Feederwatchers answer questions about changes in populations of bird species
from month to month, year to year, and place to place. [Funded by a grant
from the National Science Foundation (ESI-9550541).]
The Cornell Lab of
Ornithology
The Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology (The Lab) is a membership institute
dedicated to the study, appreciation, and conservation of birds
worldwide. The Lab maintains programs in academic research, public
education, and citizen science to foster understanding about nature
and the earth’s biological diversity. The Lab and Cornell University
together provide an international center for training both amateurs
and professionals in the ecology, evolutionary biology, and
conservation of birds.
